The rapid development of digital communication technology has significantly transformed social interaction patterns among Generation Z, particularly through the emergence of phubbing, a behavior characterized by ignoring face-to-face interlocutors due to excessive smartphone use. This study aims to analyze phubbing behavior among Generation Z through the lens of hadith on manners and social ethics. Using a literature-based approach, this research examines contemporary studies on phubbing alongside relevant prophetic traditions concerning conversational etiquette, etiquette in gatherings, and social interaction ethics. The findings indicate that phubbing contradicts the ethical values emphasized in the hadith, including the obligation to give full attention, respect interlocutors, and maintain social harmony. This phenomenon also reflects a weakened internalization of Islamic manners in the context of digital communication. The study highlights the continued relevance of hadith-based ethical principles in addressing modern communication challenges and underscores the importance of cultivating adab education for Generation Z to ensure the mindful and ethical use of digital technology.
