Abstract

This study comprehensively examines the concept of birrul walidain (dutifulness to parents) from the perspective of the hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAW. Birrul walidain is a fundamental obligation in Islam, holding a special and often parallel status to obedience to Allah SWT. Contemporary social phenomena indicate a shift in values regarding parent-child interactions, making the relevance of birrul walidain studies increasingly crucial. This research aims to explore the esteemed position of parents as honored by Allah and His Messenger, identify the hadith emphasizing the importance of birrul walidain, and thoroughly analyze its manifestations and virtues. The research method employed is a library study with a thematic approach to hadith related to birrul walidain. Primary data sources include authoritative hadith collections such as Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, supported by secondary literature such as hadith commentaries, scholarly works, and academic journals. The findings reveal that birrul walidain is a primary virtue in Islam, encompassing good deeds towards parents both during their lifetime and after their passing, and is one of the acts most beloved to Allah SWT, serving as a key to blessings in this world and the hereafter.
